Russell Simmons is one of the 20 historical numbers and celebrities to look on a new line of limited edition postage stamps which have been put out through PETA. The stamps are available for order through PETA’s website and were made through Stamps.com’s PhotoStamps program that has been recognized as official US postage since 2004.
The Hip Hop mogul’s stamp is available on a sheet of 20 which includes pictures of celebrity vegetarians such as Woody Harrelson, Bob Barker, Paul McCartney, Ellen DeGeneres, Natalie Portman, Pamela Anderson and many others. The sheet also commemorates a number of history’s most well-known vegetarians including Gandhi, Leonardo da Vinci, Leo Tolstory, and Pythagoras.
PETA will offer tips about healthy living throughout the stamp campaign and hopes to show that being vegetarian isn’t an obstacle in order to success. “These are very influential people, and not everyone knows that these folks are vegetarian. It’s just another way to be able to talk about what animals go through in slaughterhouses,” PETA informed the Daily News.
PETA’s website includes quotes from the famous celebrities who are featured on the stamps expressing their cause of becoming vegetarians. While Russell Simmons reasoning isn’t featured on PETA’s website, he did clarify his dietary preference inside a 2008 interview along with CNN. “The consumption of animals causes more harm to the environment than all the forms of transportation put together. When they said dominion over the animals, I don’t think they meant the abusive 10 billion farm animals every year, which is what we do here in America. I feel better, I look better, so it’s a big change for me. You have more clarity and I think that all of us want to be more clear. I wanted to look younger and feel better and wanted to be a greater contributor to the good on the planet,” said Simmons who is a vegan since 1998.
